Bad Food is Bad Food is Bad Food

Here's a simple trick to any recipe: Put some care into your ingredients!

I had a lousy experience when I ate out last weekend. I had a lamb shawerma in a Lincoln Park restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I love Middle Eastern food, but this meal was lousy. I remember how cold all the ingredients were. The shawerma was stuffed with too many zucchini and tomatoes. I didn't like biting into all that extra stuff, so I scooped them out, thinking I could finally enjoy the lamb. Not so! Something about the lamb tasted off. It may have been old meat. I'm not the biggest fan of lamb but I love eating the meat when it's fresh.

My baked meat pie added insult to injury. A baked meat pie is filled with meat, right? The pie I ate was mostly dough with some meat. It should have been called baked dough pie. The dough was tasty but I wished I could have eaten more meat.

I felt like the food was thrown together at this restaurant. I'm surprised that it would serve lousy food on a Saturday, a day when more people are off work and want to eat out. One major lesson I've learned from cooking is how you need to put some care into your ingredients, i.e. throw everything together and expect a delicious meal. That's a life lesson too: Don't trying winging it all the time with everything you do. People will pick up on your laziness/carelessness/etc.

I will try to post another recipe when I can. Take care readers!

  1. Did you inform the restaurant with your disappointment in the service you were provided? I know most places would have made you a new meal, not that you would be comfortable eating after complaining, or at least comp your meal, or part of it?!!!

  2. I didn't tell the restaurant because all the ingredients are laid out just like Subway's food, where everything is already made and the servers put together the meal 1-2-3. Even if I did complain I think the most the staff could do is give me a coupon, which doesn't interest me. Not sure if I'd go back to the place again but if I had to, I would try something different. If I had another bad experience, then I would complain.

  3. I am the type of person who does not like to explore when it comes to eating out. I had different cases where the restaurant service was not to my liking, uncooked food, and the atmosphere was horrible. To avoid situations like this, I have my usual spot where I dine when I am hungry. Unless the restaurant is highly recommend by a friend I would give it a try.

  4. Don't you just hate a bad experience like that. I hope that the meal wasn't expensive at least. I too had some previous bad experiences, either the service was bad or the food tasted awful. My worst experience however was last year, when for my birthday, my husband and I went to the John Hancock Signature Room. It was the worst. Even though we had reservations, we waited 2 hours, then once seated we had to wait another 20 minutes for a waiter. When he finally came around and took our orders, we waited another 45 minutes for the plates. It is not like they were busy for a Saturday night either. When we got our food it was completely cold and tasteless. The waiter came back one more time to give us the check which was about an hour and a half after he served us. So yeah, you think that the food and service would be better when you're paying over $100 a meal. I guess not, but let me tell you, no tip for him.
